The Kp number is a system of measuring aurora strength. It goes from 0 to 9 (0 being very weak, 9 being a major geomagnetic storm with strong auroras visible).

Middle latitudes need a Kp-index from about 4 to 7 depending on where you are for the Aurora to be seen. Please be aware the forecast is for global Kp.

This is only a prediction the KP levels could be higher or lower at any given time. We have had forecasts before that predicted KP4 and we saw KP6. Always look at the Current Aurora page at the live data.
