The Kp number used in the forecast is a system of measuring aurora strength (remember these are only predictions). It goes from 0 to 9 (0 being very weak, 9 being a major geomagnetic storm). Please be aware the forecast is for global Kp.
Middle latitudes need a Kp-index from about 5 to 7 depending on where you are for the Aurora to be seen. Kp is only used as a prediction, you should use the current/live data on the website along with this. A high Kp number DOES NOT mean you will be able to see the Aurora, other conditions along with this must be right. Do not use the Kp number on it's own.
This is only a prediction, the KP levels could be higher or lower at any given time.
Don't forget you can also see any current alerts/watches HERE.
